As he approaches the drawing room, he removes his hat…
She pretends to read her book…
Greetings are exchanged, and the invitation to sit is offered…
Though settled in his chair, his thoughts are by no means settled…
She smiles sweetly; he clears his throat, but no words follow…
She suspects he would much rather be in the thick of battle, than in the
calm of a lady’s sitting room… *sigh* patience, patience!
Yet
she continues to smile… will it last?

we move back to the present day, and to what happened during August’s trip to the
Persephone
and Winslow go visiting in Oregon
