With the package is a
letter: “Hey Fenchurch, I’m sorry this is so late. I hope that you weren’t
upset seeing all the Valentine’s Day greetings online and not seeing one from me…
but somehow I don’t think you’ll mind too much. I just want to say… it doesn’t
have to be a holiday for me to think about you. I think about you every day
anyway. I feel closer to you than I ever have, to any girl… and I feel like I
can tell you anything. You are so special to me, and words just can’t express
how much.
“By the way… enclosed is something I got from
the curator at the local museum. He and I have chatted a lot at the library,
about natural history and various other things.
“Somehow he acquired this and didn’t need it
for the local displays, because it’s not common to the area. I hope… that it
reminds you of what a numbskull your boyfriend is sometimes… and how he can be
enough of a birdbrain to not pay attention to Valentine’s Day for you.
“Even though I missed Valentine’s Day… please
remember that when you’re not with me, I miss you too. ALL
the time.

It’s perfect, Hiro – I think you’re clever and wonderful
to have rescued this beautiful bird skull for me.
Maybe sometimes you
do things that make you seem like a numbskull or birdbrain --
But they have a way
of turning out just fine, like this… how delicate it is. *smile*

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not, you make me feel very special, Hiro… you always do.
